End of Year Celebration Information

18 Jul 2023

Dear Year 6 Parents and Carers,

We want to inform you of the details for the events this week.

Skellig
As part of the Year 6 English curriculum we have been studying David Almond's novel 'Skellig'. This has been a wonderful resource for fictional writing and the children have really enjoyed it. As a reward, we would like to show the classes the movie version of the book. As it has an age rating of PG we are giving you the opportunity to 'OPT OUT' if you do NOT want your child to watch the film. The form to fill out is here

Class Party
On Wednesday afternoon we will have parties in the classrooms to celebrate the Summer Term. The children will have already had lunch, so we have put a small sign-up sheet on the class doors and children have been selecting an item to bring to the party. We will remind the children that the celebration is more about spending a fun time together and reflecting on our Handsworth journey, than it is about eating too much!

Graduation
On the evening of Thursday 20th July, we are having our Year 6 Graduation Ceremony in the main hall. Please ensure the children arrive back at school at 5:30pm at the main office to prepare for the celebration.
Parents and carers should make their way through the KS1 playground to the main hall (as we did for production) where you can begin to take your seats and enjoy some of our wonderful Year 6 pianists from 5.45pm. The ceremony will start at 6pm, and as we did for production, we are asking that you keep to two audeicne members per child to ensure we keep to a safe capacity.

After the ceremony, the school will remain open until 8pm to continue the celebrations. This will be a ‘bring and share’ food event. To sign up for the bring and share use this link:

From Thursday you can bring in food and we will store it appropriately ready for the ceremony.
We look forward to having you in school for this wonderful evening of celebrations.

Friday, End of Term, in the playground.

Friday 21st July is the last day of term and our Year 6’s final day of Primary School. We would like to invite year 6 parents and carers to join us in the playground from 1.15pm for one final Handsworth celebration with our children.
At 1pm The children from Reception to Year 5 will form the Handsworth 'Tunnel of Love'. At approximately 1.15pm the Year 6 children will walk through the school, through the tunnel and make their way to the stage in the KS2 playground. They will then perform their leavers’ songs.
After the performance the children from reception to Year 5 will return to their classes and the Year 6 children will have some time to say their goodbyes and to take photographs in the playground. When they are ready they can collect their belongings and will be free to leave the school. Please make sure you inform your class teacher when you leave. The school day will end for everyone else at 2.20pm/2.30pm depending on the Key stage.

Also on the children's final day they may wish to wear or bring in an old school t-shirt and marker pens so they can sign one another.

We look forward to seeing you at these events and celebrating your children’s time at Handsworth!

Kind Regards,

Mr Mussell & Miss Nadeem
