Vision, Values and Priorities

Welcome to Handsworth Primary School.

Our school is a happy, thriving learning community where diversity is celebrated and high aspirations are encouraged.  We believe in the importance of motivating and inspiring our children to enable them to be confident, curious and ambitious.

We believe all children can succeed.

Handsworth Primary is a multicultural two-form entry school with its own nursery situated in Highams Park in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. There are 445 pupils in our school.  At the heart of our practice is the belief that highly effective relationships between staff and children provide a strong foundation of trust. We strive to create a culture of resilience, embracing the learning that takes place from making mistakes and celebrating our challenges and successes.

We are committed to providing a safe, secure and stimulating environment for our children, where everyone can develop their skills and talents in various ways.  We constantly reflect and monitor our progress and understand the importance of staff development.

Handsworth Primary offers a range of extended services, including before and after school provision. We are passionate about the curriculum we deliver and believe it’s our job to make sure we see the greatness in our children and each other.

This website aims to share with you our vision of how children learn and to provide practical information about our school whilst providing you with an opportunity to share your views.

The most important people at Handsworth are the children, and we look forward to working in partnership with you so that together we can ensure they continue to enjoy school and achieve their very best.

Equality Statement
At Handsworth, we are committed to promoting equality of opportunity and opposing all forms of discrimination in relation to all protected characteristics outlined in the Equality Act.

We foster positive attitudes and good relationships, creating a shared sense of cohesion and belonging.  We consult and involve our whole school community.  We invest in training for all our staff and base our practices on evidence and on the outcomes of our continuous learning.  We are committed to embedding anti-racist practice in everything we do.

Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion objectives for this year are to:
  • Place a rigorous focus on diversity, equality and inclusion through a contextually relevant, holistic curriculum.
  • Teach an increasingly decolonised curriculum which celebrates the uniqueness of all children.
  • Continue to offer intelligent, fair and highly effective action to support individual children with a focus on restorative practice.
  • Refine and develop our recruitment process at all levels to ensure that it is fair and unbiased.
We welcome enquiries from everyone and value diversity in our staff.
