Shaking up Shakespeare – evening performance on Friday 6th March at 6pm
04 Mar 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been lovely to see the children enjoying participating in the Shaking Up Shakespeare drama workshops this week. They have shown great dedication in learning their individual lines and working collaboratively.
Costumes
The setting for this year's play is the sixties - children have been asked to see if they have anything appropriate as costumes. Please do not go out and buy anything! If you do not have anything suitable, children can wear jeans and a t-shirt, and Anthony will provide a 'flower power' scarf for them to wear.
Performance
As well as performing two dress rehearsals on Thursday to KS1 and kS2, the Y6s will be performing the show for parents and carers on Friday evening.
We are delighted to invite you into Handsworth to watch our evening performance at 6pm this Friday (6th March).
End of day
We will dismiss children using our usual routine on Friday at 3.30pm and expect the children to return at 5:30pm. Please let us know if your child cannot attend the evening performance so that we can plan for this.
Evening:
5.20pm: All musicians arrive at the main reception. This gives them additional time to tune instruments and store them in position in the hall.
5.30pm All other actors arrive at the main reception. They will dress in their costumes in Year 6 classrooms and then bring their belongings to 2MJ.
5.45pm Doors to the main hall open and parents/carers can take their seats. Please note you need to make your way through the KS1 and Early Years playground to access the doors to the hall.
6.00pm The show begins. (It is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes long).
Parents leave the hall via KS1 and Early Years playground and wait for the children outside the main reception.
Children will head back through the school to 2MJ, collect their belongings and then be dismissed from the main reception by their class teachers.
Tickets
We kindly ask that you limit attendees to two people per child to ensure safe capacity. (There are no physical tickets)
The children are putting an enormous effort into producing the show and we want to ensure the focus is on celebrating their performance. Where possible, we ask that you make alternative arrangements for younger siblings. All classes from Year 1 and above will have had the opportunity to watch the show during the dress rehearsals.
Mobile Phones
Please note that children's mobile phones will not be allowed in the hall. If they have to bring them in, they will be left in 2MJ until the end of the performance.
