Homework - due on 11th May

Thank you for your continued support in helping your child to complete all their homework and to hand it in on time.
Here is the homework for this week. It is due in on
 Thursday 11th May 2023.

Reading Records:

Children should update their reading record on our whole class Padlet.
It must be updated on a weekly basis as you would with your child's reading journal, to record what they have read that week.

This week, please answer the following questions on our whole class Padlet:

1. What is your name?
2. What is the title of the book you are reading?
3. What chapter and page are you on right now?
4. Which genre best describes the book you are reading?
5. Where is the book set?
6. Who is your favourite character so far and why?


Spellings:
  • You are learning: Summer 1 Week 3
     
  • Use The Spelling Shed to learn your spellings.
  • Sign in using your login details, which are pasted into the back of your Home School Diary.
  • You will then see your two assignments for this week.

Maths:
  • Please complete and mark the worksheet sent home. There is also a game to play on equivalent fractions and decimals.
  • Answers here.
 
English
  • Your child was given a poem called FEAR to read. 
  • They must consider the following questions and write the answers IN THEIR SPELLING BOOK.
  • There is no need to rewrite the questions.
  • Answers here.
Questions

1. Find three adjectives which describe the street.
2. Why do you think the phrase ‘on and off’ is repeated?
3. What is another verb for ‘lurk’?
4. Find two expanded noun phrases which show what the narrator is afraid of.
5. Where do you think the narrator could be? What evidence can you find in the text to support your idea?
6. What is the meaning of ‘desolate’? Use a dictionary to help you.
7. Why do you think the poet writes, ‘STOP LOOKING!’ and ‘SWITCH ON THE LIGHT!’ at the end?

Reading:

  • Please listen to your child read out loud every day for at least ten minutes.
  • Ask them questions about what they have just read.
  • Questions you might ask:
  • Who are the characters in the book? Do you like them? Why?
  • Can you summarise in one sentence the piece you have read out to me?
  • Were there any words you didn't understand?
  • Tell me a couple of facts about the book.
  • What is the book about?
  • What has interested you most about the book so far?
  • What is the genre of the book
