Summer Term Newsletter April 2012

02 May 2012

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome back and I hope that you all had a wonderful Easter break.  We have now entered the final term of this academic year, with just over twelve school weeks to go.  We have lots of exciting activities and initiatives in store, but the children are also aware that maximum effort is needed, aiming high,  and putting in hard work in order to reap positive results.

LAST TERM HIGHLIGHTS:
We collectively raised a phenomenal £4313.23, so a huge well done and thank you. We hope that you enjoyed the Sports Relief warm-up in Key Stage 2 and the children’s end of term singing.
We also enjoyed our Easter Visitor on the last day and the afternoon tea and cakes.  Many thanks to FOH for organising both.

THIS TERM HIGHLIGHTS:
FOH Quiz night took place on Saturday 28th April.  It was a fabulous evening, with Ed as quiz master.  Many thanks to everyone who was able to participate and to our FOH organisers (results are displayed on the schools website).
Over the past 2 weeks classes have been busy working on their D.T projects.  You are all invited to view the finished work at our D&T exhibition in the main hall at 3.30pm on Friday 4th May.  This will showcase Reception to Year 5 work.
Due to the hugely successful KS2 skipping workshop last term, we are pleased to be holding a KS1 skipping workshop on Wednesday 9th May.  Please keep a look out for the arrival of new skipping ropes to buy at the end of the day following this exciting event.

NSPCC workshops are taking place for Years 5 and 6 on Thursday 10th May.

Whole class photos will be taking place on Tuesday 29th May

Year 4 are holding a Viking Day to celebrate their learning over the term on Thursday 31st May.

To celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee we are holding a children’s tea party on the last day of this term Friday 1st June – we will be asking children to bring food in to share. (more details on this to follow shortly).
The date of this year’s school fete has been changed to Sunday 8th July.  Please do complete the FOH form that will be sent out this week as your support for this event is very much needed.  The fete is a real highlight for the children and our community and requires lots of helpers, to ensure its continued success.
GYM equipment installation – we are delighted that our new gym equipment will be installed this half term in the main hall.
Sports Round-up There are a huge number of events this term for the children to participate in. These include Quadkids (borough sports); The Year 5/6 Swimming Gala; Year 3/4 Mini Tennis competition and a number of sports to celebrate the Olympics, (torch relays, baton runs and our very own Sports days).  Full details to follow.  We are delighted to have Jane Farrier, from Orion Harriers, Athena from Leyton Orient and Sammi from Pineapple, who are our Professional sports coaches this term.
Class Assemblies – Year 1’s assembly will take place at 9am on Friday 11th May and Year 4 assembly is at 9.00am on Friday 15th June.  Please do feel welcome to join us.  The children love performing and sharing their work with an audience.

As you can see, there are a number of events taking place this term, so please do ensure you access the website, class/school newsletters and noticeboards to keep informed of activities and initiatives.  Summer term class newsletters will be available on our website during the week of 30th April.

School Uniform Please do ensure that your child attends school in full school uniform, including proper school shoes.  Please also ensure that your child has a proper PE kit, with plimsolls.  All items must be clearly labelled.
Attendance Please do refer to the schools attendance policy. Summer is upon us, however, holiday during term time is unauthorised and we do hope that you continue to support our school by ensuring your child attends each day in order to make best progress.
Have a wonderful Summer Term.
