School Trip: London Canal Museum
26 Feb 2013
London Canal Museum Science and Engineering Week Workshop, Islington
22nd March 2013
Dear Parents/Carers, January 2013
We would like to take year 5 to the London Canal Museum, Kings Cross, on Friday the 22nd of March 2013. We will be taking part in three different activities. In the first we will be learning about how the Islington tunnel was built on the canal, and build model tunnels ourselves. In the second session we will find out why boats float and how to measure the amount of cargo on boats. As a third activity we will be going on a boat trip through the Islington tunnel! This workshop will complement our Geography unit on Water, Rivers and Coastlines and will also see us getting a taste for engineering. What an exciting way to end our 2013 Science Week school activities!
We will be leaving school at 9.00 a.m. prompt and returning to school by 3.30 p.m.
Children will need:
Packed lunch in a rucksack or shoulder bag (no fizzy drinks or glass bottles)
A book for the journey (if they wish)
Sensible footwear and raincoat if necessary
School uniform
Please note that the children do not need to bring any money with them on the day.
In order to cover the cost of the workshop we need to ask for a voluntary contribution. However, as we will be taking public transport, this is only £4.00 per child. Please sign and return the consent form together with payment in a marked envelope to your child’s class teacher by Friday 15th February. Please make cheques payable to Handsworth Primary School.
The trip can only go ahead if all contributions are made. Please note that your contribution is made on the basis that the payment is not refundable if your child cannot attend for any reason, including illness. Please make your own insurance arrangements against your cancellation as the school still has to pay full price for the trip.
Yours sincerely,
Ms Adcock, Mrs Chetty
