Spring Term 2 Newsletter

Nursery Newsletter – 2nd Half Spring Term
‘Toys’

Welcome back after the half term. We hope you all had a good break. We are really looking forward to exploring our topic of 'Toys’ between now and the Easter break. We are going to look at ‘It’s Mine’ by Tracey Couroray and Caroline Pedler, ‘But Excuse Me That Is My Book’ by Lauren Child and Goldilocks and the Three Bears. If your child has a story about toys that they particularly enjoy, please bring the book to Nursery so that we can share it with the class.

In literacy we will also continue with our letter sounds which the children are really enthusiastic about. We are now beginning to explore how letter sounds go together to make words. We will also be practising letter formation in lots of fun ways and continuing with rhythm and rhyme.

Toys at Nursery
Please can you talk to your child about their favourite toy at home. They can take a picture of this toy and bring it in to Nursery to share with their friends. We would like to discourage children bringing in their own toys to Nursery as they are getting lost or broken. Please do not send in any more toys with your children.

Class Rules
Each week we will be focusing on a different class rule for the children to follow. We will share this rule with you on the noticeboard at the beginning of each week. Please can you follow up with this at home by asking your child if they have been following this rule in class and through copious amounts of praise when you see your child following this rule at home.
For the first week back we will be focusing on ‘tidying up their toys and sharing’.

Important Dates
We break for the Easter holiday at 2.30 on Friday 3rd April. School re-opens on  Monday 20th April.

Parents Evening –Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11st March
If you wish to make an appointment, you can do this by booking an appointment on-line. If you have not already registered on our web site, you will need to do so.

Sports Relief – 13rd March –  This is a non-uniform day for the school. The children may dress up and give a donation to the charity.

Book Bags
Some children have now got a book bag. However, some have not. It would be great if all the children could bring in a book bag and put it in the blue box every day. They can put letters and work in it as they would in a Reception class and choose a book to read from the Nursery library. These are changed every Monday. Spare clothes should be kept in a separate named bag.

Wellies and Clothing
We will be going out into the garden whatever the weather. Please could you bring in some named wellies for the children to change into so that we can keep the mud outside. Please write your child’s name on their wellies.
Nursery is all about developing through exploring inside and out, this will include different sensory activities and messy play. Please make sure that the children come into Nursery in clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.

Developing independence
In Nursery we are encouraging children to develop their independence through tidying up their own toys, pouring their own drink and preparing their own snack at snack time and putting on their own coats, socks and shoes. Please can you also encourage them to do this at home. It will need time and patience, so make sure you have plenty of both before you begin.

Thank you!
We would like to again thank all those parents and carers who have been donating towards our £1 voluntary contributions each week. This money is invaluable to us, and ensures we can buy cooking ingredients, afternoon snack and many other consumables/arts and craft. Thank you!
