New from the governors - October 2018

13 Dec 2018

At the end of the summer term, we wrote to parents stating our commitment to take steps to increase our engagement with stakeholders and we would like to take this opportunity to update parents on governance progress since the start of this academic year.

Governors wrote to parents at the beginning of September regarding the parent governor vacancy on the governing body and we are delighted that three parents have put their names forward with considerable expertise and are grateful for their commitment to standing in the parent governor election.  Parents have until Wednesday 10th October to find out more about the candidates and to vote.  Please vote in the election here.

Governors met on 11th September and, amongst a full agenda, reviewed training attended, considered school priorities and agreed committees/terms of reference and link governors roles. This information can be found on the school website here

Governors reviewed SATS outcomes and parents should be very proud, as Handsworth pupils continue to achieve and make more progress than pupils nationally. School data with provisional national comparisons are published on the website and parents can learn more here.  The minutes of governors’ meetings during the summer term were agreed and are available for parents. Minutes of the governors’ meeting on 11th September will be available to parents on the school website once they have been ratified at the full governing body on 11th December 2018.

This term, governors are delighted that Jill will be supporting a primary school out of borough two days a week.  We have formally supported a number of schools and this is part of our commitment to shared school improvement.  This is a great opportunity, which will be beneficial for both schools, particularly in terms of the opportunities for our staff’s continual professional development. Miss Addai and Mr Tromans, along with the Senior Leadership Team, will continue to provide leadership at Handsworth whilst Jill is offsite. Furthermore, following the discussions last term around ever-increasing constraints on school finances, it will contribute to our school budget.

Parents can continue to use the governors@handsworth.waltham.sch.uk email to make contact and governors welcome your input.

Kind regards
