Mock SATs

In Year 6, as well as preparing pupils for the national tests (SATs), we help them to be 'secondary school ready' by the end of the year.
This means that when they leave Handsworth, they will have the tools and knowledge to help them transition to Year 7, regardless of the school they move to.
Mock SATs and SATs
Some parents have requested information on how they can help their children prepare for the SATs, so we have put together some information below to help you.
MOCK SATs
The Mock SATS take place from Monday 25th - Thursday 28th February.
We have produced a guide to the Mock SATS to help your child know what to expect.
SATs
The tests take place from Monday 13th-Thursday 16th May.

There are three tests altogether covering the various areas of English and Mathematics. See below for more information on these tests.
English tests
There are two tests for English: Reading; and Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (GPS).
The reading test has one paper and the grammar, punctuation and spelling test has two papers.
- Paper 1 - Reading test (60 minutes)
- Paper 1 - Grammar, punctuation and vocabulary (45 minutes)
- Paper 2 - Spelling test (15 minutes)
Mathematics Test
There are three papers in the mathematics test for Year 6.
- Paper 1 - Arithmetic (30 minutes)
- Papers 2 & 3 - Reasoning (40 minutes each)
Paper 1 will consist of fixed response questions, where children have to give the correct answer to calculations, including long multiplication and division.
Papers 2 and 3 will involve a number of question types, including:
- Multiple choice
- True or false
- Questions where you have to give the answer to a calculation, draw a shape or complete a table or chart
- Questions where children will have to explain their approach to solving a problem
Pupils will learn everything they need for the tests during lessons at school.
